Rice Ideas
White Rice – 4 Servings – Rice Cooker
1 cup rice, rinsed
1 cup water (or stock)
Brown Rice- 4 Servings – Rice Cooker
1 cup brown rice
1.5 cups water (or stock)
When it clicks to ‘Warm’, let stand 15 min
Buckwheat Kasha – 4 Servings – Rice Cooker
1 cup Buckwheat
2 cups water (or stock)
Pilaf Rice
1/2 tsp onion powder
1 cinnamon stick
4 cardamon pods, crushed
2 cloves garlic
1 tsp turmeric
Saffron Rice
1/4 tsp saffron threads
1/4 tsp turmeric
1/4 tsp cumin (ground)
1/4 tsp garlic powder (or 1 clove garlic, minced)
1/2 – 1 tb fish sauce
After cooking:
Squeeze of lemon juice
Coconut Rice – 4 Servings
1 cup rice, rinsed
1 cup water (or stock)
1 cup coconut milk
1/2 tsp salt
2 – 3 tb shredded coconut
When it clicks to ‘Warm’, let stand 10 min
If rice is still hard, add 1/4 cup water, cover, and cook for another 5 min
Could also add: grated ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, 1/2 tsp minced garlic
Paprika Rice
1 – 2 tsp smoked sweet paprika
1/2 tsp turmeric
Pesto Green Rice
1/4 cup pesto (more to serve)
stock (chicken or vegetable)
Herb Lemon Rice
1 tsp basil
1 tsp oregano
stock (chicken or vegetable)
After cooking:
1 tb lemon juice
Jeera (Cumin Seed) Rice
1 tb cumin seeds
ghee / oil
Microwave oil for 30 sec, then add in cumin seeds
Cook on High another 1 min, until seeds become darker & fragrant.
Throw into rice cooker with:
1 bay leaf
1/2 tsp cinnamon
4 – 5 cloves
Turmeric Yellow Rice
1/2 tsp turmeric
1/4 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder
stock (chicken or vegetable)
Mexican Red Rice
1 cup salsa
1/2 tsp ground cumin
1/8 tsp chili powder
stock (chicken or vegetable)
Couscous – No Cook
100g couscous
160ml boiling water (or stock)
Cover & let stand for 5 – 8 min
Bulgur Wheat – No Cook
360g coarse bulgur wheat
500ml boiling water (or stock)
Cover & let stand for 30 min
